2023 BSCP Practitioners’ Conference to focus on Domestic Abuse

Date: Monday, 21st Aug 2023 | Category: Uncategorised

We are excited to announce our annual Practitioners’ Conference will take place on Thursday 16th November 2023 at Millennium Point.

The conference will focus on ‘Working as Partners to Safeguard Children from Domestic Abuse’. Attendees will learn from experts in the fields of coercive control, cultural sensitivity, and trauma related to domestic abuse. Additionally, the Domestic Abuse Commissioner will present the national and legislative outlook, and survivors of domestic abuse will share their valuable insights. The conference is free of charge and aimed at front-line practitioners who work with children and families in Birmingham.

Why have we chosen to focus on domestic abuse?

Research shows that approximately 1 in 5 children in the UK have experienced domestic abuse at some point during their childhood. This type of abuse can have serious and lasting impacts on their physical and emotional health, causing issues like trauma, anxiety, depression, and behavioral difficulties.

At the Birmingham Safeguarding Children Partnership our primary focus is fostering safer communities for children through successful multi-agency collaboration. In line with this commitment, our 2023-25 Business Improvement Plan outlines a comprehensive set of priorities to guide our efforts over the next two years. Priority 2, ‘Assuring a coordinated and coherent inter-agency response to children impacted by domestic abuse and violence in families’, emphasizes our commitment to taking effective action across agencies to address the issue of domestic abuse and violence that impacts children. The conference aims to support this priority by bringing together practitioners from across the city to learn how they can safeguard children from abuse in their daily practice.
