We are recruiting Young Scrutineers!

Date: Thursday, 18th Sep 2025 | Category: Uncategorised

BSCP are excited to announce that we are looking to appoint a number of young people to become the first group of Young Scrutineers in the city.

This is a chance for young people to make a real difference to the lives of their peers; to keep them safe by making sure that services are held to account.

Young Scrutineers will:

  • Provide a young person’s perspective on safeguarding issues and initiatives.
  • Support our Independent Scrutineer in evaluating how organisations work together to safeguard children in Birmingham.
  • Assist in co-designing and participating in surveys and events.
  • Help create engaging content for social media platforms and other resources for those working with children.
  • Attend various meetings and contribute your ideas on how to keep children safe from harm and improve services.

We are looking for young people who are…

  • Aged 13-21 years and living in Birmingham
  • Able to make at least two sessions per month in the late afternoon/early evening
  • Passionate about keeping children and young people safe
  • Able to work in a team
  • Reliable and willing to learn new skills
  • Supported by services (This is not essential)

If you, or someone you know, would like to apply to be a Young Scrutineer, the below Expression of Interest form should be completed and emailed to bscp.contactus@birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk

The deadline for applications is Friday 3rd October 2025.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact Graham Tilby, Independent Safeguarding Consultant and Soulla Yiasouma, Birmingham City Council Youth Service.
