Child Safety Week 2025
Child Safety Week, which is hosted annually by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT), took place from 2nd – 8th June.
The theme for this year was ‘Safety is for sharing’, focusing on ensuring expert safety advice reaches as many people as possible, and helping to combat the rise in misinformation in this area.
The home is the most common site of child accidents. Every year, approximately 6,000 deaths from home accidents occur across all age groups. Children under 5 are especially at risk. According to GOVUK, there are 450,000 visits to A&E departments and 40,000 emergency hospital admissions in England each year because of accidents at home among under-fives.
One of the most shocking trends in the data surrounding accidents in children is the link between child injuries and social deprivation. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has reported that children from poorer backgrounds are five times more likely to due as a result of an accident than children from better off families.
Fortunately, some of the worst accidents are the simplest to stop – CAPT has top tips and resources to help families learn how they can prevent them.
