Contract Type

Up to 40 days per annum of Independent Scrutiny.  Expectation of 3 days each month, except in August, with the remaining days to be used flexibly. The role is subject to a three-year tenure, subject thereafter to an annual review for a maximum of a further two years.

The Lead Safeguarding Partners are looking for an individual with requisite experience and expertise in safeguarding, to undertake the role of Independent Scrutineer for Birmingham Safeguarding Children Partnership (BSCP).  The Independent Scrutineer will work alongside strategic leaders from Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police, Birmingham and Solihull NHS Integrated Care Board and Birmingham Children’s Trust acting as a ‘critical friend’ providing effective support and challenge at both strategic and operational levels aimed at driving continuous improvement in partnership practice and collaborative working to safeguard and protect children across the city.

This is an exciting opportunity, to make a real difference in strengthening Birmingham’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements, but also helping Lead and Delegated Safeguarding Partners provide strong leadership in delivering on its strategic priorities as set out in the BSCP Business Improvement Plan 2023-25.

The Independent Scrutineer will ensure that the voice and lived experience of children and families is at the heart of our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements, informing and shaping the development of children’s services and improvements in safeguarding practice.   The Independent Scrutineer is supported by the Partnership Business Manager, Quality Impact and Outcomes Sub-Group, and Business Unit to help oversee the delivery of a comprehensive scrutiny and quality assurance programme.
